MAPI Accomplishments

The Maryland Association of Pet Industries (M.A.P.I.) accomplishments include:

  • Negotiated a favorable settlement of a Psittacosis Quarantine that affected 35 stores
  • Supported and encouraged local response that resolved a problem resulting from a ban on the sale of electrical equipment. Still working with manufacturers to change equipment design and approval process
  • Seminars and workshops providing continued education on relevant topics (e.g. legal issues with employees, ferret management and display)

  • Testified in Annapolis on:
      - Vicious Animal Legislation

  • Worked with government – Maryland Invasive Species Council - on:
      - Captive Wildlife Committee
      - Reptile Regulations
      - Health Department Concerns
      - Local Animal Control Issues
      - Ferret Rabies Vaccine
